POST #18 - THE PLAN / DRAGON'S DEN PITCH
TIME FOR THE MUSIC VIDEO PLAAAAN
Lets-a go
1) Which brief are you taking? - A music video.
2) The style of music / artist? - My chosen song is All Star by All Star; both of which are more pop-style of music, although it's also listed as being "alternative rock" as well.
3) (n/a for music video)
4) Idea for the narrative so far? - Right, here goes with that ol' idea.
A guy. Down on his luck, busking in the city with an ill-defined song. He's just broken up with his girlfriend. While he counts up his earnings from the day before heading home, a woman approaches him. She asks if she can give him some advice; "The world is gonna roll you." After hearing this advice, the guy is given a new lease on life. This is where the song starts playing! His music the next day, performing All Star, is more joyful and defined. A musician scout finds the guy, and brings him onto his record label. Eventually, as time goes on, he becomes more successful. Performing in small shows, parties, and even getting the big time shows and festivals. It ends with the guy realising how great his life has become, and eventually turning down the girl who ditched him after wanting him back.
5) Potential cast? - n/a yet
6) Potential locations? - Back of the Inns in Norwich for the opening, possibly the Waterfront for the band performance scene (use a greenscreen if not)
7) Inspiration from existing products - There's a couple.
SONG CHOICE: Shrek. No, I'm not joking. The opening of "Shrek" is to All Star by Smash Mouth, and the film in itself fits my "meme" theme.
4TH WALL BREAK: Deadpool. One particular line I have in mind for the main character, after they're given the advice at the very beginning goes as follows; "Wow, I wonder how that'll play out in the music video." The line and it's intended delivery is inspired by a scene at the beginning of 2016's "Deadpool", where the titular character talks to the audience about random things.
8) Anything you desperately want to avoid? - FALLING INTO CLICHES. I don't want to make my music video fall into the sea of edgy, gothic, depressing music videos with people being sad all the time. I've seen far too many of them, using all the same techniques. I want to defy each and every one of them. Instead of muted colours, I want brighter and slightly more saturated colours. Also, no Alice in Wonderland anythings. I've seen more Alice in Wonderland inspired A2 music videos than I would've liked to.
9) How is your work going to be creative and original? - I'm tackling something, in terms of subject matter, that I've never seen done in A2 media coursework before; internet culture. The concept is somewhat unique in itself. I also plan on making the entire music video a comedic, light hearted, maybe a couple of 4th wall breaks... good times all around in this music video! Fun is the main goal.
