POST #4 - PRACTICE TASK PLANNING
Potential Settings:
Kett's Park |
This is where we decided to film our preliminary task. Towards the back of the field, there is a large area of forest. This is where our characters meet, and fall in love. We chose this area as it is quite picturesque, and logically, makes sense for the story (they meet whilst walking their dog, and this is a popular dog walking area).
Later on in the video, we are planning on showing them at home, perhaps arguing. For the house, we will use Megan's living room. We will focus more on the relationship, and the action, so the room will just be generic. The forest will be bright and beautiful, which will become a stark juxtaposition compared to the house. This will further portray the breakdown of their relationship, and how happy they were together, which will evoke sadness.

Potential Costumes and Props:
As our preliminary is set in modern day, and is realistic, we have decided to use ordinary clothes. There may be a costume change to show the progression of time, as we are going to show the progression of their relationship. When the characters begin arguing at home, there will be a costume change to show how their relationship has developed. Their costume will be normal in both settings, to portray the normality of the situation.
During the video, we won't have any major props. Any props present will be ordinary, and commonplace- dog leads, a water bottle, phones. This is because we want to keep the sense of normality, and reality.

Potential Characters:
In our video, we have four potential characters:- Eliza and Alice. They are the protagonists of the video. The story revolves around them. They are roughly 17/18 years old, and are in a relationship.
- Dog 1 (Oscar). Oscar is Alice's dog, and he is very excitable, and a good dog.
- Dog 2 (Roxie). Roxie is Eliza's dog, and she is slightly calmer, but is still a good dog.
Potential Cast:
- Eliza:
- Alice:
- Oscar:
Oscar Lansdell |
- Roxie:
Roxie Carolan |
Finally, for Roxie, we used Noah's dog. She was readily available, and got along with Oscar.
Potential Split between 'Performance' and 'Story':
We decided against having a performance aspect, and will not film any lip syncing. Our idea have a very 'indie', calm feel to them, and we felt a performance or lip sync aspect would retract from the calmer message. Moreover, we are trying to tell a story, and feel that adding in lip syncing would distract from the storytelling aspects of the video.
Storyboard:
This is our storyboard. It is largely self-explanatory, however, at the end, we have created two ideas for potential endings. These include- a sad ending, where the couple remain unhappy, and it ends with shots of the dogs alone, or a happy ending, where it all seems sad, but suddenly, Oscar hears a knock on the door, and rushes to answer it. When it is opened, Eliza is seen holding a bunch of flowers. They share a brief conversation (which is unheard), and hug.
We are undecided about the endings, as the sad ending is easier to do, as we only need to film a short section of the dogs and people, but the happy ending is 'nicer', and we prefer the story with a more happy ending."
